AIR
Nearest Airport is Bagdogra
in North Bengal which is 124 kms and approximately 5 hrs. drive from Gangtok.
There are regular Indian Airline and other Private Airline services operating
from Bagdogra linking Calcutta, Guwahati and Delhi.
Helicopter service from
Bagdogra to Gangtok 45 mts.
RAIL
The two closer railway stations
are Siliguri 114 kms and New Jalpaiguri 125 kms, connecting Calcutta, Delhi,
Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.
ROAD
Gangtok is connected by
road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District Headquarters
within Sikkim. The Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) plies regular bus
services from Gangtok to all major cities and towns in North Bengal and
within the State. Booking facilities are available at Silguri and
Gangtok. There is also an outagency railway booking facility in Gangtok
located at the SNT bus terminus.
ENTRY FORMALITIES
All foreigners intending
to visit Sikkim can avail of 15 days' permit. Permits for FITs and
groups for restricted areas i.e. all subdivisions excluding "Chungthang"
can be obtained 24 hrs.in advance from all Indian Missions abroad, Sikkim
Tourism offices at Delhi, Calcutta, Siliguri and Gangtok, after furnishing
requisite documents.
Permits
Domestic and Foreign tourists
require permits to go to Tsomgo and Yumthang.
The Superintendent of Police,
Check-Post Division of Sikkim, Police Department, Gangtok, issues permits
for Domestic Tourists. For Foreigners, the permit is issued by the
Tourism Department, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, for a group consisting
of not less than 4 members (all foreigners) and the tour has to be organised
by an approved Travel Agency / Tour Operator.
