Aurangabad

Aurangabad is located in the northern part of the state of Maharashtra, in the western region of India and is known mainly for its medieval monuments and cultural heritage, as well as for its silk and cotton textiles. It is located 375 km from Mumbai (Bombay) and is named after the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb. The importance of Aurangabad is great, owing to its proximity with the world heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora. Lying along the right bank of the Kham River, the city also boasts of Bibi-ka-Makbara, a tomb that has some resemblance to the Taj Mahal.
